Buckets fail in predictable places, and Greenwood Equipment Welding has welded all of them: cracks radiating from the ear welds, torn corner plates, shells split along the wear line, cutting edges worn past the bolt holes, and teeth adapters rocked loose. All of it is on site work with the bucket still hanging on the machine or dropped on blocks in your yard.
Repairs that hold in this ground
Central Indiana glacial till is full of cobbles that pound bucket corners and edges, so a lasting repair here means more than filling the crack. We gouge cracks out to clean metal, weld them full, then reinforce the failure point: a wear strap over a thin shell, a gusset behind a cracked ear, or a hardfacing pattern over the areas the clay and stone attack first. A crack that gets a cover pass with the dirt still in it will be back in a month, which is why we do not do that.
Beyond buckets
The same truck handles grapples, forks, augers, box blades, bale spears and breaker mounts. If the pin bores behind the attachment are sloppy too, the line boring rig rides on the same rig and both repairs share one trip fee.
Bucket questions
Is my cracked bucket worth repairing?
Usually yes. Our bucket repairs run $450 to $1,400, and a new bucket for a mid size excavator starts well north of that before freight. The exception is a shell so thin from wear that welds have nothing to bite; we tell you that on sight rather than welding scrap.
What is hardfacing and when does it pay?
Hardfacing lays a wear resistant weld deposit over the areas the ground eats first: cutting edges, side cutters, bucket corners and the wear straps under the shell. In the cobble heavy till around Greenwood it typically multiplies edge life two to four times, at $550 to $1,600 per bucket depending on coverage.
Can you replace a cutting edge on site?
Yes. Bolt on edges swap fast, and weld on edges get cut off, fit and welded full length with the bucket on the machine or dropped on blocks. Corner shrouds and tooth adapters are the same visit.
Do you fix quick attach couplers and thumbs?
Cracked coupler frames, sprung skid steer quick attach plates and thumb mount cracks are frequent work. Anything in the attachment load path gets a structural repair, gouged to clean metal and welded full, not a cosmetic pass over the crack.
